The upcoming meeting between the U.S. and Iran governments.
Derek , Bathurst: May 28 2007

Well, to any of you who have happened across my blog site, welcome and hello. Any feedback is welcome, as long as it is an attempt at a serious conversation, not a sermon on how my beliefs suck, and I suck, et cetera. I don’t keep track of any of my sources, but if I end up sticking with writing here, I will most definitely attempt to do so.

With that out of the way, I shall now get the heart of this ‘blog’, which is of course the summit between U.S of A and Iran.

First off, I feel that the many issues that are currently in contention between these two nations will not end in anything being achieved; publicity is the death of any forward progress in any political venture. In the eat or be eaten world of global powerplay, too often we see posturing get in the way of any real discussion of what it is that the two parties got together in the first place to resolve.

And simply saying that this summit between the two nations is only about the state of affairs in Iraq is ludicrous at best. The much more pressing concern is that a fundamentalist regime is still in the process of manufacturing NBC weaponry. I am not in any way saying that everyone who lives in the Middle East is a terrorist; those who are most often are being manipulated into blaming the Western world for their trouble (which, in some cases, we actually are).

I personally believe that far more is achieved through back-door manauvering in diplomacy than this constant fracas of large scale diplomatic envoys being sent to other countries, whose only purpose is to gain political support back home, not address any relevant issues.

However, I digress from the topic. Based on past relations between these two countries, I am somewhat dubious that unless some incredible backdoor manuavering has occurred, all this summit will do is take up air time on the newspapers, which is something that should not occur; window dressing does not help keep your house together, although it does look quite nice for a while.

I guess, all I am trying to say is don’t get your hopes up about this summit. If nothing was achieved beforehand, all that can possibly occur is backwards movement. And considering how dangerous the Middle East is becoming, even a positive move could be dangerous. Because as sure as water is wet, whatever happens will fuel the divide between Lebannon and Israel, who have all but declared war on each other.

I honestly hope the Middle East will get the time it needs to heal its deep wounds and hatred. Because at the end of the day, people are dying, no matter who shot them and why. As a species, we should be ashamed of ourselves, taking this beautiful world of ours for granted as we burn the flowers that grow ‘neath the sun.

Well, the caffine is wearing off now, so I think I’ll call it a night. Sleep well everyone, and let’s hope that a brighter world awaits us in the morning.
